Pharmacare

Eligibility
To be eligible for Pharmacare benefits, you need to be:

  • registered with the YHCIP
  • a Yukon resident
  • at least 65 years old
  • at least 60 years old and married to a living Yukon resident who is at least 65 years old

Coverage
Pharmacare will pay 100% of the cost of the lowest priced generic forms of all prescription drugs listed in the Yukon Pharmacare Formulary. This includes the dispensing fee.

The following non-prescription drugs and products are also covered by Pharmacare:

  • compounds used in the control of heart disease
  • anti-inflammatory drugs
  • insulin syringes.

Claims must be submitted through any private or third party insurance plans before submission to Pharmacare. Pharmacare does not cover vitamins, personal care items, laxatives, antacids and most medicines used to treat colds.

Supply Limits
Neither Pharmacare nor CDP will pay for more than a three month supply of benefits at a time. There must be at least 75 days between the dispensing of a 3 month supply.

Exception Drug Status
Physicians submit an application for EDS on behalf of their patients. Initially, only 30 days coverage will be granted.
