Coverage of Ostomy Supplies

The OHIP Assistive Devices Program provides assistance to valid Ontario Health Card holders who apply for the ADP and have a permanent colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy, ileal conduit or continent pouch/reservoir. ADP does NOT assist individuals with temporary ostomies. ADP does not cover individuals who live in chronic care hospitals, residential facilities, or long-term care homes. ADP does not provide coverage for supplies available under Workplace Safety and Insurance Board or Group A Veterans.

To gain coverage, you must complete the Ostomy Grant Application Information form. Your doctor or nurse practitioner must fill out part of the form.

Once approved, you can buy ostomy products anywhere in Ontario. If you have one ostomy, you will receive $600 per year; if you have two ostomies, you will receive $1200 per year. Some individuals receiving social assistance may receive $800/ostomy. Payment is split into two cheques, six months apart. Coverage must be renewed every 2 years, and you must keep receipts for all purchases for 2 years.
