January 9, 2008: New research has found a correlation between cholesterol drugs (statins) and reduced risk of some cancers, including colorectal cancer. The researchers have yet to find a cause or explanation for this correlation, but have concluded that it warrants further study. You can read more about the findings here.

August 2007: Over at Medical News Today, they’re writing that having a pet pig as a child may help prevent Crohn’s later in life! A recent German study suggests that just as exposure to animals in early childhood may help prevent allergies, exposure to farm animals may help prevent Crohn’s.

July 5, 2007: New research from the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh have identified a previously unsuspected gene found to be associated with Ulcerative Colitis.
